so i'm trying to crack this NT has from a Vista box...

here is my predicament, i am in a remote location with no access to my worldbook drive with my tables on it and i have a 56k frame relay connection to the internet. bleh.

that's what i've got, 0phtcrack says "sorry, no luck".

anyone who could help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi out there!
I installed Vista and obviously mistipped my password during setup using Caps Lock or something else. I can not get in anymore
I tried the Ophrack Live CD, but I only got this NT Hash

Can anyone tell me if I can retrive the password? Can anyone calculate it?

Yes, but...

Table precomputation time: 17.36 days

even with the simple loweralpha charset (1-8 chars, 90% success rate)

Anything a bit more useful would take months to generate on my computer.

I also joined freerainbowtables.com which is a distributed rainbow table generation (and also cracking) project, but it seems MySQLSHA1 tables aren't on their todo list...

In all reality LM hashes are weak no matter how long your password is. I mean come on it uses DES...

If you use default windows settings, then your password is split into indepently crackable 8 character chunks. HA HA.

Cool, I actually thought it would be an NT hash I didn't realise Windows 2003 still enabled LM hashes by default, apparently they'll be gone in 2008.

There are plenty of full tables for LM available on the net, quite a few online reverse lookup tools too if you look hard enough.

same goes for MD5 although there aren't many (any?) full tables available.

LM Hash it's ok though I cracked it with Orphcrack and basic tables, it was fairly weak.
